Episode Summary

In this part 2 of this powerful episode of PCOS Unfiltered, Lindsie continues the conversation with Chris Garrido to explore what it really takes to create lasting transformation—from the inside out. After years of feeling stuck, unhealthy, and disconnected, Chris reached a breaking point that forced him to confront the reality of where his life was headed. At nearly 500 pounds and facing serious health challenges, he realized something had to change. But what makes this story different isn’t just the weight loss—it’s the mindset shift. Through a combination of nutrition, medical support, strength training, and deep internal work, Chris didn’t just change his body—he changed his identity. He became a more present husband, a more engaged father, and someone committed to living fully instead of just getting by. This episode goes far beyond physical transformation. It’s about discipline, commitment, raising your standards, and understanding that real change happens one decision at a time. Because the truth is… No matter what you are struggling with... You are not too far gone. And you are not done yet.

(0:00) To me I for the first time in my life. I think I felt like you know what it is time my life (0:06) I think I felt like you know what it is time (0:08) I think it was it was just really it had hit home for me that you know this I don't think that I was down (0:16) You know depressed frustrated sad (0:18) Like I'd had been in the before like before if I had gotten lab work done and then the results came in and they were bad (0:24) I just feel like oh my gosh (0:25) I'm never gonna I'm never gonna be able to do anything (0:26) This was the first time that I think there was a little mixture of hope there and it was because I knew that I had (0:32) Really like shifted my brain like this was it one way or another this was it (0:37) I was either going to get healthier (0:39) I was going to get gone one way or another and so the reality is I chose the former and I would choose it every (0:46) time (0:49) Welcome back to PCOS unfiltered where we go beyond the diagnosis and talk about what it really takes to reclaim your health your energy (0:56) and your life (0:58) Today's episode is such a powerful conversation because it's about so much more than weight loss (1:03) It's about wake-up calls identity shifts healing from the inside out and what can happen when someone finally decides that they are not done yet (1:11) My guest today is Chris Garrido and his story is one that I know will resonate with so many people (1:17) After years of living in a body that felt limiting exhausting and unsustainable

(1:22) Chris reached a breaking point following the loss of his father at nearly 50 years old and over 400 pounds (1:28) He realized that if something didn't change he was headed down a path that would cost him not only his health (1:34) But precious time with his wife and sons (1:36) What followed was not an overnight transformation or some quick fix. It was a decision then another then another (1:44) through nutrition medical support strength training mindset shifts and a willingness to stay in the process even when it was hard (1:51) Chris completely changed the trajectory of his life in this episode (1:56) We talked about the emotional wake-up call that started it all (1:59) The reality of living in a body that no longer allowed him to fully show up for his family the role of lab work (2:06) GLP-1 support hormones strength training and why real transformation is about so much more than the number on a scale (2:14) We also talked about discipline momentum identity and the ripple effect that happens when one person chooses to change

(2:22) This is an incredibly honest (2:24) Motivating and hopeful conversation for anyone who has ever thought they were too far gone too stuck or too late to begin again (2:32) As a reminder the content shared on PCOS unfiltered is for informational and educational purposes only (2:39) the views and opinions expressed by the host and guests are not intended to serve as medical advice as (2:45) Always consult with a qualified healthcare professional before making any changes to your diet exercise or treatment plan (2:52) The information shared is based on personal experience and expert interviews and is not a substitute for professional medical guidance (3:00) So let's get into it.Here's my conversation with Chris Garrido (3:12) The (3:14) Listen for anybody that's listening to this (3:16) I don't care what the changes whether it's health and wellness, whether it's a career change whether it's a relationship change (3:21) There's probably something in your life that you would love to make better and and I will preach this until the day that I die

(3:28) If you make that one thing better that success in that one area will spill over into every other aspect of your life (3:36) This is not just about me losing weight or adding muscle (3:40) This is about the authority that I now can sit down and talk to you with me the enthusiasm that I can speak with (3:47) You know, I find myself evangelizing now about health and wellness me. That's 440 pounds 18 months ago (3:55) And here I am like, come on, let's go, you know (3:58) But but I'm also more importantly. I am a better husband.I am a more present husband (4:03) I show up in my marriage every day in ways that I never could before (4:08) I'm a better father not just because I can do more things and I can do more things (4:12) that is a big part of it, but like I just have this this (4:16) Recognition now of how important it is to be present and I think before I was doing too many things to just sort of numb (4:23) the pain (4:24) You know and and and really just getting hiding hiding from from things that I knew I needed to change (4:31) Largely in a world of distraction and and now I have this clarity that causes me to really not want distraction anymore (4:38) I want to be present. I want to be there for them. I want to be there for me (4:43) I want to be there for you.I want to be there for your listeners (4:45) I literally want to positively impact as many lives as I can (4:50) And and this this journey has really just unleashed the beast when it comes to that (4:54) And so if there's one person listening that's thinking like yeah, I'd like to change that thing, but I don't know do it (5:00) Do it like Jen told me it's time (5:03) Yeah, yeah (5:04) I mean, I can't tell you how many clients I've helped that have told me their marriages have improved their (5:10) You know (5:11) Even their kids like maybe their kids were headed, you know down that that same path as them and now then the kids (5:17) You know have lost weight and are just doing better in general. I even had somebody tell me their dog lost weight (5:22) one time (5:25) Actually, that's actually true (5:27) Yeah, my dog it's not our fault we adopted her overweight and in the bed (5:33) But I that person you just described that's me. And so that that's the other piece Lindsie (5:38) That's so important what you just said, you don't even realize how many people you're going to inspire (5:42) You know

(5:43) My 70 year old father-in-law is going to the gym on a regular basis now and he will tell you with with my mother-in-law (5:50) They will tell you that hey you did this my my wife has lost 20 30 pounds (5:56) My kids are healthier (5:57) We we we eat differently as a family, but but the other thing that happens is our activity is like activity now (6:04) You know, it's not sedentary. It's let's go out and do this. Let's go out and do that (6:08) And so one of the one of the cool things for my family was I told you in July of 2024 (6:13) I had to stay at the hotel while they went to the zoo in July of 2025. We took a vacation to Georgia (6:19) And I don't even know why but in my brain I was just like, you know what? I want to climb Stone Mountain (6:24) I don't even I don't even know why I knew what Stone Mountain was (6:27) I've never been there before didn't didn't know the first thing about it and (6:31) I told my wife and she was like you want to climb Stone Mountain and I was like, yes, and here's why? (6:37) We'll be in Atlanta almost a year to the day of that Birmingham trip July 2024 to July 2025 to me (6:43) like what a what a symbolic bookend to this year of (6:47) Transformation of being the dad that was too fat to go to the zoo and had to stay at the hotel room by himself and get (6:52) Pictures of his family to the dad that climbs to the top of a mountain with his family like that (6:57) That was that was very meaningful to me, even though the idea just popped in my head (7:02) and so we (7:03) We didn't know what to expect (7:05) But we went up to Atlanta and she my wife said when do you want to do this? (7:08) And I said tomorrow morning and she was like tomorrow morning already and I said yes (7:12) I want to just be done with it and we had a lot of other activities planned to went to the MLK Center

(7:17) We went to a Braves game, you know, we went to the Georgia Aquarium (7:20) And so we had all this other stuff and I'm like, well if I'm gonna get physically spent (7:23) Let's get the mountain out of the way first (7:25) Let's not go to you know (7:26) 50,000 steps at these other things and then have a cloud mountain to climb (7:30) But we went and I'm telling you until we had no idea.I they said there was walking trails (7:35) It is not a walking trail. It is a granite mountain that gets slick in the rain. It did rain the day (7:41) I was there. It was also one of the hottest days on record in Atlanta Jill is July 22nd 2025 (7:47) It's like high upper 90s (7:49) I mean it was awful awful conditions and I will tell you it is the hardest physical thing (7:55) I've ever done in my life hardest thing I've ever done and there's people out there that are jogging it (7:59) One guy came jogging down like singing gospel music (8:02) I'm like this is nothing for some people and yet this is Everest for me like literally and figuratively and (8:09) we took so many breaks and (8:12) But but what we did it right and and I remember I got to the point that I thought was a halfway point and I (8:17) Didn't know if I was gonna make it. I was I told my wife (8:19) I said if we have to do what we just did again (8:22) I don't know if I'm gonna make it and there was like a (8:24) 60-something year old woman there and she she saw me and remember at the time I'm climbing this mountain. I'm still (8:29) Probably 350 like I'm still pretty significantly overweight (8:34) And so she said you're working hard today on I said, yeah, I said, I don't know if I'm gonna make it though (8:38) I said this is a halfway point.Like I'm really struggling. She's like halfway point. She's like you're almost there (8:43) I said, what do you mean and her son brought me out of this little pavilion? (8:46) He's like see that point right up there. He's like, that's the top and I'm like what and now now I'm invigorated (8:51) I'm like, oh, I'm in my head (8:53) I'm thinking like I might fail and now I'm like there's no way I could fail and so we ended up finishing that and I (8:58) Got to the top and in front of my kids. I just broke down in tears. I was just sobbing (9:04) Uncontrollably to the point where I think my wife knew but she also wanted to make sure that nothing was like physically wrong (9:09) And she's like just tell me that you're okay. And the only words I could get out. I did it. I did it

(9:14) I just kept saying that over and over again (9:16) I did it and I look back on that moment and I think that singular moment might change the entire trajectory of my kids life (9:24) Because in that moment they saw me break down with emotion a that's something they had never seen before (9:30) they also saw me climb to the top of a mountain 1,600 feet above sea level a (9:36) Year after I couldn't go stand and look at animals with them at a zoo (9:40) I mean in that moment (9:43) I'd like to believe that both of my sons recognized like there is nothing that is impossible (9:48) And there is no one that is too far gone (9:51) Like no matter what no matter when just make the change and I hope that they'll carry that forever.I know that I will (9:58) Yeah, so you're going up there this year, too (10:01) I think so (10:02) well (10:02) so now my son has a baseball tournament back in Atlanta this summer Marietta close enough and (10:07) I don't even I haven't really told my wife this yet (10:10) I may have like made a joking comment about it, but I absolutely have to do it again (10:14) And and now now the goal would be can I get to the top without stopping? (10:19) You know, like how much easier will it be this time? You know, I'm 293 pounds right now

(10:24) I'm again still not done yet. Never will be done (10:27) You know perpetual improvement is the goal now. I just want to constantly keep getting better (10:33) But yeah, I have to have to climb it again.I mean, yeah (10:36) Can't go up there not climbing might become an annual thing now might just go to Atlanta on the hottest day every summer and go (10:50) Yeah, I (10:51) Liked what you were saying to you know about the about the goals and you know, you don't you're never done, right? (10:57) I mean, I was a big Michael Jordan fan back in the day (11:02) But (11:02) I've even said, you know, you could say any, you know, Tom Brady Simone Biles, you know any of those they didn't stop when they when they (11:09) Started breaking records or when they you know (11:13) We're at the top of their game right and they have they had coaches and their coaches had coaches (11:17) You know like they they're constantly working to get better in my like with my clients (11:23) I talk about you know raising your your standard raising the bar (11:26) Because yeah, like once you kind of meet that goal and it it doesn't have to be defined by the scale, you know (11:32) It could be like (11:33) You know cutting out that food, you know, you're feeling great (11:37) Okay (11:37) Now let's take the next step and then you know raising raising your standards along the way, you know (11:43) and I know for me personally like when I (11:47) You know start with my health problems and I had to had to cut out things that I never would have thought I you know (11:54) I thought I was eating great (11:56) But I didn't tackle it all at once right, you know, I'm like, okay (11:59) This is what I'm doing now and now I have very high standards when it comes to food (12:02) And there's some times where I can't control that and I've also learned to to let that go as well (12:07) But like when I can control it, you know, I have my standards and I I live by that and that's you know (12:12) That's around movement. That's around food, you know all all that stuff. I think is super important. So (12:19) That's something really important right there you reminded me of Tiger Woods Tiger Woods is in that same like grace of all-time conversation

(12:26) He not only did he have a swing coach which that in and of itself like who's gonna teach Tiger Woods how to swing a golf (12:32) Club better, but he had a swing coach, but Tiger Woods was always notorious at the end of every year (12:37) He would break down his swing and start all over (12:39) He was constantly reinventing his swing and there was a time in my life where I thought that was crazy (12:45) I'm like, that's dumb. Like you have the best swing in the world. Leave it alone if it ain't broke don't fix it (12:49) You know and now like where I've kind of evolved to even mentally not not from a physical transformation, but a mindset transformation (12:56) I completely understand that now because what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow (13:01) And so how can we go back and refine it and continue to make it better and something else you said earlier, too (13:07) I thought was so spot-on and I don't think I ever considered that when you talked about (13:10) People get motivated to either move away from pain or move toward pleasure (13:14) I I don't know a lot of people that have ever been like I want to lose weight because it's gonna feel great (13:22) Is the is the real motivator more times than nothing but to that point though (13:27) If I if a year and a half ago (13:29) I could have known how I would feel today and the things that I could do and the role that I could play in the (13:35) Lives of my wife and my kids and my clients and my friends in my community (13:38) The play piece of it it would have been enough to get me here like it it feels so good (13:44) But that wasn't it for me.It was get away from pain and that was the more drastic motivator for me (13:50) but I've never even considered what you said Lindsie like (13:52) Just knowing how I feel like if any of us could hit a fast-forward button and be like well

(13:58) This is what I'm gonna look like and this is what it's gonna feel like you know (14:00) Like we would be racing to the gym. We would be racing to eat healthier (14:04) We would be racing to do all the things (14:06) To push us towards wellness as quickly as we can (14:09) We just don't know and so that's why the 90 days was so important for me like in the absence of belief (14:15) We need some commitment like at some point people ask me like was it hard? Yeah, of course. It was hard (14:21) It still is hard, right? It's always gonna be hard (14:24) But the cool thing about it is what it was hard until it wasn't right like it's hard (14:29) But it's a different kind of hard at some point in time.It just becomes what you do (14:34) You know going to the gym is hard and it's still hard I was in there this it was by the way (14:39) It's 54 degrees inside the gym this morning. I'm in the gym freezing on leg day. Everything's tight and stiff (14:45) It's still hard, right? (14:46) But it just becomes what you do and so the same way that I take a shower

(14:51) I don't think about it like, you know, should I take it on the energy that down who wants to do that, right? (14:57) Like I just go to the gym (14:58) The same thing with my food like it felt like such sacrifice in the beginning like I can't eat this and I can't eat that (15:06) It's now just what I just what I eat. It's why I'm really bad. You might even think this is a bad idea (15:12) You probably tell all of your clients don't do what Chris does, but I eat the exact same thing every day every day because (15:17) It eliminates options, which does I don't even need the discipline. I know exactly what I'm gonna get every single day (15:23) Some people get sick of that.I'm just weird (15:25) Like I I don't I think I've gotten to a point now where I crave the stuff that I eat because it's just what I (15:31) Eat, you know, like I used to have a lot of cravings early on or I would I would say like, okay (15:35) I'm gonna give myself a cheat day like once every six weeks (15:38) I'm gonna take a cheat day and I would literally keep a list of all the things I'm gonna eat on my cheat day (15:42) They had a craving. I'm gonna write that down (15:44) I that I don't even know if I ever had the cheat day like in my mind in the beginning (15:49) That's how it was gonna be and then by the time I got to that point (15:51) I don't even want to do that anymore. Like I like what I'm doing.I like what I'm eating (15:55) I like the life that I'm living and then I like the the (15:59) You know the the outcome of it, you know (16:01) You you love the process and surrender the outcome and then mo all of a sudden you love the outcome, too (16:06) Yeah, nothing tastes as good as feeling amazing, right? (16:09) Yeah, I hate that though because when I was like when I was 440 pounds people would tell me that and I'd be like (16:15) Have you ever had smoked ribs? (16:19) Risk it (16:20) It is true it is true and how I feel now and and the longevity that God willing (16:25) I'll have is is far more important than any food tastes (16:29) But I do remember hearing that when I was over 400 pounds and I was just like guys are so stupid (16:34) You're just eating the wrong stuff (16:37) But now you get it more I get it (16:40) I'll never tell anybody that though because I remember how it made me feel like I'm gonna stay away from that cliche (16:49) Fuel so people gonna really watch me shovel this macaroni and cheese in my mouth and tell you you're wrong (16:56) Yeah, no, that's actually something towards the end of my 90-day program that I do talk to my clients about because of course by then

(17:03) Yes, they are feeling amazing and they know how (17:06) Whatever X Y & Z food is gonna make them feel and they don't want to go back to that, you know (17:12) And again, it's part of like raising raising your standards, you know along the way because they know what it's gonna do to their body (17:19) Whether that's weight or energy or you know skin or whatever it might be and they (17:26) Don't want to feel that that way anymore. So tell them on day 90. Don't tell them on day.Yes, exactly (17:32) No, I don't say it on day one. By the way, it's so cool that you have a 90-day program that 90 day (17:38) Science behind it. I I need to I need to connect you with my wife too because the other piece of this that you would (17:44) love (17:45) She actually has really not only are we eating, you know, when I say I'm eating clean (17:51) I basically mean like I'm eating under my daily caloric intake limit.I'm hitting all my macros (17:56) When she talks about cleaning it's a whole different story (17:59) And so she has eliminated all the seed oils all the artificial preservatives all the artificial colors (18:05) I mean she like she has really leaned in heavily (18:09) She has an unbelievable garden that she started from scratch in the backyard now (18:14) We're doing she's growing broccoli cauliflower carrots tomatoes peppers (18:19) Lots of different herbs and whatnot. So a lot of the stuff that we eat is garden to table (18:23) I have a in my breakfast every morning (18:25) I have a jalapeno that's grown in her garden (18:27) Which by the way her jalapenos are so much better and so much spicier than the store about what I don't know (18:31) She does that but but no, it's it (18:34) She's really changed the my idea of what clean eating is and and she did it for her own underlying health (18:41) She got diagnosed with Hashimoto's and she's had to go to a gluten-free diet and make a lot of changes

(18:48) And so she's been really really instrumental for me because you know (18:52) Not only does she do all my meal prep (18:54) But she makes every like morsel of food that I eat every day and has really throughout our entire 15 years of marriage (19:00) But the reality is she also has really opened my eyes to a lot of other things (19:05) So not only am I eating, you know healthier from a weight loss standpoint and a maintenance standpoint (19:10) But I'm really eating healthier from a longevity (19:14) Eliminating potential carcinogens and stuff like that (19:16) Like we we are super clean in the way the way and our kids to you know (19:19) Our kids don't eat food done like that's that that should be a no-brainer by the way (19:22) I don't know why everything I looked at a tube of white toothpaste and it has blue food dye in it. Why yeah (19:29) Yeah (19:30) It's crazy.I know the the mouth mouth washes that are out there that are like purple and they have yeah (19:37) They have food dyes in them and I'm like (19:39) Like the little NyQuil Z pills or whatever that are like crayon purple (19:45) Does it have to be crayon purple like if it was white would it would fewer people buy it? Is that the problem? (19:50) I had I guess so. Yeah, or clear. Yeah (19:54) Purple supposed to make me sleepy I guess (19:56) Somewhere some marketing team, you know determined that oh, yeah, we can poison our bodies as a result of it.It's great (20:02) if you think about it (20:05) There's a lot of (20:07) fast-food chains out there that have either red or yellow in (20:14) Their logo or both (20:17) Right, because there has been research done that those colors. It's ketchup and mustard (20:26) No, I you said it like immediately five companies came to mind so yeah, right exactly. Yeah

(20:33) So as we kind of start to wrap up I want to I want you to tell the listeners about your book (20:39) Oh, yeah, so I had this idea, you know, once I once I climbed the mountain (20:45) It was kind of that bookend on on year one of the journey (20:48) and so I just had an idea of like writing a book about you know, the first year of it and and what it looked (20:53) like and (20:54) You know, my trainer really pushed me to do a lot.I I didn't I told you I was in at 730 (20:59) I didn't want anybody to be there. I don't want anybody to see me. I didn't want to talk about it (21:02) I was just so ashamed at how low my starting point was (21:06) That I did not want to be transparent about this journey at all (21:10) And I'm really glad that he forced me out of my comfort zone with that, you know

(21:14) Basically how he did it was he said there's probably thousands of people out there (21:18) That could be better off by hearing your story and they can relate to you in a way that they'll never relate to me (21:25) You know my my trainers a world record, you know power lifter (21:28) He's got abs he shredded like he looks like a robot right like and so he's like those people will never relate to me (21:33) They'll they'll always say but but you're different, you know, you're genetically different or you've always been this way (21:39) He's like when they look at you, they'll relate to you.And so I started sharing the journey on social media (21:45) Just posting videos from the gym and talking. I did a monthly weight loss recap (21:50) So I told everybody kind of where I was and what my in body had what my what my labs are (21:54) I'm still doing labs every three months (21:56) Tracking all of that. And so I just started to like get messages from people that are like, hey, I just want you to know (22:02) I'm going to the gym now or I've lost 40 pounds now because your journey inspired me and that to this day is still like the (22:09) most humbling thing in the world that (22:10) Just by me sharing my story and you're doing this Lindsay like just even this podcast (22:16) Like you're inspiring people to take control of their health probably people that you'll never even know about right like around the world (22:23) I got a message from a guy in England and he's like, I don't know him (22:26) He's like hey, we know this guy's a mutual friend and he shared your journey with me (22:31) And I was looking through and just wanna let you know, like I'm already losing weight.I'm going to the gym (22:35) It's a perfect stranger, you know across the world and and there's something so humbling about that (22:40) And so to me the book was a no-brainer. It's just a way to reach more people and share the journey with more people

(22:46) I've got another friend of mine here locally sent me a message and I've known him our kids play baseball together when they were much (22:51) Younger and he said hey, I never I didn't tell anybody about this and I didn't post it on Facebook (22:55) He's like, but I'm only sharing this with you. He sent me a picture. He's lost over a hundred pounds (22:59) He looks incredible and he's like this started because because you did this (23:04) I've had people that came and joined the gym and and you know work out with me there and like I said my in-laws (23:09) You know, my kids are healthier (23:11) Both of my kids have have really gotten strong and and a lot of that, you know (23:16) And again, I don't want to talk about dieting with kids. It's not dieting (23:18) It's just really being more mindful about what we put in our body and making better choices. So yeah the book (23:24) I have a copy of it right here (23:25) It's called fit by 50 my year-long journey from death to life as Facebook likes to you know (23:31) Or zoom likes to watch this.I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna beat the system. Yeah (23:36) By the way, the picture there on the cover is me at the top of Stone Mountain (23:39) So the same story that I that I told you earlier (23:41) That was the picture that we took when when we got to the top of it (23:44) This is this is really really vulnerable by the way, I wrote this for people with 50 year old eyes (23:50) So it's 14 point double space. So a couple people told me I don't even need my readers for this and you're welcome

(23:58) But but the book is just a really vulnerable tale of where I started (24:02) I share stuff in there like the fact that at 49 years old.I couldn't tie my shoes (24:06) My wife had to tie my shoes for me. That's that's humiliating and there's a lot of shame in that and I've processed all of it (24:13) And I processed it really just for the sake of letting my vulnerability like inspire and motivate other people (24:18) But I talked a lot about where it was and and what that the journey looked like in the first year (24:24) And candidly this summer will be the end of year two and I won't be shocked if I write a second book on year two (24:30) Because it's just not done. It's never done right like we're we're always just looking for perpetual improvement and (24:37) You know, I've had so many opportunities that have come from this journey, too (24:41) I've been interviewed by and featured by a couple of local news stations (24:46) I've been on a couple of radio shows being able to do podcasts like this one with you (24:51) I'm really just I want to go out and just spread a message and if somebody asked me like in a nutshell (24:57) What's the message the message is not really for me about eating healthier (25:01) The message is not really about going to the gym

(25:03) The message is very simply whatever it is in your life that you want to change and that you want to improve (25:09) You have the ability to do it you have the ability to do it in probably a shorter period of time than you think and (25:16) You are never ever ever too far gone to stop (25:18) I mean I are to start because there were so many issues that I had (25:23) Structurally and metabolically and my weight and all of that and and the reality is and I mean this from my core when I say (25:29) This everyone says this it's so cliche. There's not a cliche when I say it (25:33) It is a literal fact if I can do this (25:36) Anyone can do it like literally anyone can do it because I started from you know, probably the worst possible place (25:43) You know at my heaviest. I'm a 440 wasn't even my heaviest my heaviest. I was 484 (25:47) I was almost 500 pounds and so to be able to come from that and now, you know be down 147 pounds (25:54) I weigh 293 pounds now (25:55) all of my labs are in normal range and not even normal range because normal range is annoying optimal range like (26:01) You know better than anybody right like well, no range is here and you're somewhere over here.So you're fine. No, I'm (26:08) like (26:10) Yeah, yeah optimal optimal places and all those and and and I just can't I'm just so so excited

(26:16) I used to think about death a lot. I talked about it in the book (26:18) I used to pray that God would let me live to be 58 years old (26:21) Because that 58 both of my kids would have graduated high school (26:24) Like I just wanted to barely make it through their childhood (26:27) You know if I could just be blessed enough to do that (26:30) It would be enough and the reality is, you know (26:33) What kind of father prays to live to be 58 like I should be praying to live to 98, you know (26:38) And so now I just I used to think so much about death and now all I think about is life (26:43) I'm just so busy living and you know (26:47) Kind of reminds me of Shawshank Redemption when Morgan Freeman says you got to get busy living or get busy dying (26:52) I'm just too busy living to even think about dying and it's a good place (26:56) So to anybody that wants to change any aspect of their life (26:58) I'm here to be a testimonial and say it is possible. It is worth it. And the best time to do it is right now (27:05) Yeah, yeah, I mean you that's that's a great way to end it because I was gonna ask what your piece of advice would be (27:11) So, I mean, yeah, and that's that's that's my message with this podcast, too (27:15) You know, it's never too late to start to just take that first step and do you know something? (27:23) Yeah, you're like said you're not too far gone

(27:27) So I think that's super super important if you if you don't take anything else away from this (27:33) Which I think there's a lot to take away from this, but I think you know, that should be it (27:37) You know, anybody can do it at any time (27:40) Yeah, I would add one thing to that too. I you know, I've done a lot of reading (27:45) I don't know when I became a reader like two years ago.I used to never read (27:49) And I read a book called relentless solution focus by dr (27:53) Jason silk, and he talks about the fact that the reason why people get so (27:59) Intimidated by problems is because we believe that a solution is taking a problem and making it perfect and (28:06) Perfect is is is it doesn't exist in my brain perfect is just a reason to not start (28:12) Well, I can never be perfect (28:14) So or where I'm gonna wait till things are perfect and that no perfect doesn't exist right like one day never comes day one comes (28:21) It's today right? And so he in the book. He talks about the fact that just making a situation 1% better is a solution (28:29) Like we made it better and then we make and we so we solve it again. We solve it again (28:33) We solve again and we just compound 1% solutions on top of each other (28:36) And so the things in our life that we feel like are largely out of our control (28:41) They really aren't even if we don't have the ability to snap our fingers and make it perfect (28:45) We have the ability to do something to push the needle and make it 1% better and and that's a solution (28:51) And then we just look for the next solution. And so for what you're doing and your you know, your your message to people (28:57) I think that's a really important nugget is can you make everything perfect tomorrow? (29:02) No, but are there things that are within your control that can get you one step closer to perfect every single time every time (29:09) Exactly. Yes. Love it.I think that's a great place to end this (29:16) One one very last question is where can people find you and connect with you and then also find your book (29:22) Yeah, the book is on (29:24) It's on Amazon. It's available in paperback and Kindle. So (29:29) Fit by 50, by the way, there's a lot of books called fit by 50

(29:32) I didn't know that when I wrote it so very specifically fit by 50 my year-long journey from death to life (29:38) it's on it's on Amazon paperback and Kindle and then (29:42) also on on (29:43) Audible I did and I narrated it because it's my story.I couldn't let anybody else tell my story (29:49) And I do have a page right now on Instagram. That's really just kind of documenting my fitness journey (29:57) So my name Chris Garrido fit underscore 50 fit underscore 5-0 on Instagram and I just post a lot of (30:06) Gym videos there and talk a lot about nutrition. A lot of people ask me what do you eat? (30:11) So I've been posting a lot of my food lately. It's really easy. It's the same thing every day. So (30:15) But again, it's I try to be as vulnerable as I can if anybody ever has any questions about anything (30:20) I'm always always responsive.I mean I get messages from people that I don't know and I love it. I love it (30:26) I mean, I have capacity for it now. I'm not tired all the time, you know (30:29) So I can be I got so out of shape and overweight that I was like a bad friend (30:34) Like people would ask me if you asked me to do you a favor the answer was gonna be no by default (30:38) Because I was too unhealthy like, you know people be like, can you help me move? No, I can't help you move (30:43) I can't walk across the house right now, you know, so now I'm just I feel like I'm trying to make up for lost time (30:48) I'm looking for big I do you a favor. Is there anything you need? Like I just want to go out and help (30:52) I want to positively impact lives and if I can do that by sharing my story, then it's a great start (30:58) Yeah, yeah (30:59) Love that. Well, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to do this and being vulnerable and sharing your story and (31:06) I know I really really appreciate it.I'm sure our listeners do too. So, thank you. Yeah.Thank you

(31:11) By the way, you're you're doing a very great service for a lot of people that that need to hear it (31:16) Especially women there. I've seen it with my wife there. There are so many shortcomings in the (31:22) American medical system when it comes to women that you know, they'll just sweep things under the rug. You're fine (31:28) You know, I watched it happen with my wife and she had so many things went so largely (31:33) Undiagnosed because on paper she fit inside of a range and she was just told like, you know, no, you're fine (31:40) You know, it's anxiety. It's stress (31:42) You know, and and I know I know a little bit about what you tell people listen to your body (31:46) You know women are so in tune with their bodies and you know, some doctor typically a male will be like no you're wrong (31:52) I've watched it happen with my wife (31:53) So keep banging that drum and keep doing what you're doing because there's a lot of people that need that that message (31:58) Yeah, thank you. You're welcome.Thank you (32:03) Thank you so much for listening to this episode of PCOS unfiltered

(32:07) I hope Chris's story reminded you of something really important. It is never too late to take the first step (32:13) No matter how stuck you feel no matter how long you've been struggling and no matter how far gone you think you are (32:19) Change is still possible (32:21) One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is that transformation doesn't require perfection (32:26) It just requires a decision to begin and then the willingness to keep going (32:31) One step one choice one percent better at a time (32:35) I also love the reminder that healing is never just about one outcome when you start improving your health (32:41) It spills into everything your confidence your energy your relationships your presence your purpose and the way you show up in your life (32:49) If this episode resonated with you (32:51) I'd love for you to share it with a friend (32:53) Take a screenshot and tag us on social media or leave a review (32:57) So more people can find this conversation and realize that their story is not over yet (33:02) You can connect with Chris on Instagram at fit underscore 50 and his book fit by 50 (33:08) My year-long journey from death to life is available on Amazon Kindle and audible (33:13) I'll make sure all of that is linked in the show notes for you (33:17) All right. I'm sending you so much love and I'll see you on the next episode of PCOS Unfiltered: Nourish, Heal, Thrive.
