This week, practice listening to your body before looking outside yourself for the answer.
Once a day, pause and ask:
❤️ What am I feeling in my body right now?
❤️ Where do I feel open, calm, or at ease—and where do I feel tight or uncomfortable?
❤️ Is there something I'm saying yes to when my body is telling me no?
❤️ What would I choose right now if I trusted myself?
You don't have to have all the answers. The practice is simply learning to hear yourself again.
Remember, body wisdom isn't about always knowing the "right" choice. It's about creating enough space to recognize what your body, intuition, and inner voice have been trying to tell you.

So, so happy (2:10) to have you here. Let's, let's get started. So, first question, you've spent 25 years (2:22) at the intersection of trauma informed parenting, spiritual therapy and human potential. (2:27) What have those years shown you about what mothers are actually hungry for beneath all (2:33) the wellness noise? Thank you. Well, first of all, it's so nice to be with you and thank you, (2:39) Lindsay, for having me on your podcast.Uh, what does this show me? It's so layered. (2:46) It's really, really layered that before you become a mom, you're a woman, which means you (2:53) were a girl and a child. So you have, you're bringing all of that to mothering. But so much (3:00) of the time, what I find is that moms really want to know that they're making the right choices (3:06) and to know you're making the right choice means you've got to have confidence in your choices (3:13) and have the presence of mind to discern what is right for you and your children. (3:22) Yeah. Oh, and I mean, that starts, starts early, early on, doesn't it? All those, (3:29) all those things that kind of, kind of get you there.Yeah. So what was it for you? Like what, (3:37) what set you on this path? It's so funny. It's such a, I love that question.Thank you. And it's (3:45) so funny. I came into the world just always wanting to be a mother.Like I, I, and my name, (3:55) Wendy, which what my parents were deciding what to name me. And somehow I ended up with the name (4:01) Wendy. And I remember when I was in my late teens, early twenties, I was in college and I was in the (4:08) laundry room and this woman came up to me and we were chatting and she said her name was Wendy, (4:13) but she changed it.And I was like, why? And she said, because it meant mother of all lost (4:17) little boys. Now she was a good decade older than me. And I was like, yeah, well, not my thing.(4:27) And I was always drawn to children. I, I used to ask my mother every holiday season, she would say, (4:34) what do you want? And I'd be like a baby sister or, you know, and she'd be like, well, that's (4:39) not happening. So I, I, and I also had a lot of trauma in my childhood. And so I believe it was (4:48) like this convergence, you know, like all these cooperative components. And I loved spirit out (4:56) from the time I was a little kid, I was like, you know, aware of a presence around me. I was speaking (5:02) to trees. So, um, fast forward, I had a career in the entertainment industry as a publicist, (5:09) press agent, and my clients, I brought high visibility to celebrities and films and projects. (5:16) They would always say to me, you know, you'd be such a great manager because of my one-on-one, (5:23) like, I was always really wanting to talk to them. So, uh, fast forward, I moved to California.I get (5:31) on a spiritual path. I moved to California. I become a spiritual therapist, a spiritual teacher (5:40) because I believe that when we recognize our divinity, right, which is a big word, (5:47) but when we remember that we are gifts, we're here, we can shift lives beginning with ourselves (5:55) and then our children. And one of my mentors, I didn't end up like, I didn't choose to go into (6:01) like any of the thing I'm doing. I just happened. I just had people coming to me (6:08) and, and asking me questions.Like when I became a mom that like, and I was pregnant, I would have (6:14) other mothers coming up to me. So it was just kind of like the cosmic, you know, tumbler or (6:22) breadcrumbs led me to do it. And I resisted initially, you know, I was like, I don't know (6:26) I want to do this.Yeah. Yeah. I mean, same here.I never imagined I'd be doing any of this stuff (6:33) I'm doing today, but, but at the same time, I think it all set me on this path, you know, (6:39) to get me here. So yeah. Um, you founded the Million Mamas movement to empower, educate and (6:47) evolve. What was the moment or the pain that told you this couldn't just be one-on-one work anymore (6:55) that it had to become a movement? Uh, so that happened right after I got, I was given, I mean, (7:03) literally I was given this like inspiration moved across my heart and my mind to do the march, (7:09) Million Mamas march. And within, I would say I wouldn't, within that month or something, (7:15) I kept thinking, well, I love doing events. I, you know, I had a facility for them because I did them (7:21) all the time when I did PR, you know, two film openings in a week, premieres, events.I just (7:27) did that. There was something different about wanting to support the motherhood journey to (7:34) help kids to eliminate the trauma and the impact of unfulfilled lives or parents that hadn't done (7:43) their inner work, uh, lots of different variables. And I thought an event is one, (7:49) it's a one and done, but a movement is something people grow with. And that was really, (7:58) that was really it. It's like, we can go to weekend retreats. I love them.Weekend events, (8:03) love them, doing them and being at them. But then there's gotta be support afterwards to help people (8:12) like the work that you do, the work that I do to help people, you know, integrate these new (8:19) ways of being that are actually old ways of being right. The old information, the wisdom to live (8:28) into it.So that's what informed me. Love it. That's probably why we align so well and get along (8:36) so well because yeah, it's like I, and I do, I feel like there is a shift, you know, with, (8:44) with a lot going on in our world.Um, you know, people's eyes are, are being opened with a number (8:52) of things and, um, yeah, same thing. I feel like I'm here to like, you know, put things in motion (8:59) too. So, yeah, yeah. It's a calling. It's so, you know, it's so interesting too, because (9:07) I remember doing a lot of, you know, interviews when the march was being planned and, and people (9:13) would ask me certain questions and even like my fiscal sponsor, you know, I had this wonderful (9:18) fiscal sponsor and she would say, so what's your one thing? What's the one thing? And I was like, (9:25) I don't know. I don't know.Bullying. Like it was just, you know, it was just so interesting (9:32) because it's a calling. Yeah. It's something that you just can't not do. Yeah. Yeah.(9:42) So you are medium channel, um, prayer whisperer. So how does all of that spiritual sight (9:52) inform the way that you see a mother's relationship with her child? And what are (9:56) you perceiving that most people simply can't see? Hmm. It is a sacred agreement. It's a soul (10:08) agreement. In my, in my work, I believe that we are souls, right? Eternal souls, eternal beings (10:18) that live in this human body suit or body temple that houses our soul and that we have sacred (10:28) agreements with the people that are the closest with us and that we come together by divine (10:34) appointment and, and that we are more than just the appearance. And so when, when children come (10:46) into our lives, and I, I have this saying, when a child comes through you or to you, (10:51) it's a sacred agreement. And the more that you can honor the spirit in the child, the soul of the (10:59) child, as you honor yourself, the more harmony, the more flourishing happens, the more you can have (11:06) a, a conversation, a communication, because you're not looking to own the child. You can't own (11:14) another being, but you get to be in relationship with them. And a lot of it depends, you know, (11:23) the quality of that relationship really depends on your own personal growth and unfoldment.(11:29) Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and I think that's, you know, that's an important conversation too, because (11:34) so many women with PCOS are struggling with fertility, you know, issues as well. So, (11:41) you know, do you see, I mean, you specifically work, you know, with mothers a lot, but even, (11:48) even in your work, do you see that, you know, with women that are struggling with, (11:54) with fertility and, you know, and kind of how, like you said, how the spiritual self, (12:00) how the soul can be affected by that and maybe how to move past that even. (12:06) Yeah. Well, firstly, I always say to the women and the moms that I work with, you're not being (12:12) punished.Cause oftentimes when women are, I went, I had secondary infertility and I know it was (12:22) really hard and sad. So I have a lot of, and I have a child that I adore who I like, I hit the (12:31) jackpot. So I'm also like, yes, and I would have loved to provide a sibling for her.And so when I (12:41) work with women that are going through infertility, firstly, I invite them to love themselves no (12:49) matter what. And then whatever issues come up, we deal, you know, I will make referrals because, (12:58) you know, I don't know, I'm not an integrative body worker. So I make referrals to people that (13:04) understand nutrition.I do talk about, honestly, I do talk about what, what they eat. You know, (13:11) what are you eating? I talk about that with every, what are you eating? What are you putting in your (13:16) body? What are you drinking? What are you, you know, there's that, you know, what are you feeding (13:20) your mind and feeding your soul? Is it nutrient dense? Is it, you know, or is it like popcorn, (13:28) which I love, I love popcorn. So, you know, I really do my best to treat it in as loving (13:34) and nurturing a way as I can. And, you know, I really invite them to look at what chemicals (13:41) are you putting in your body? Perhaps you need to do a detox, you know, and then as a hypnotherapist, (13:48) if that's something that they want to do, we'll go in, you know, a little deeper. So, you know, (13:53) my, my, you know, when somebody sits in front of me, I always tease them. I'm like, do you want (13:59) to hear everything? Like, is I, you know, cause I think of, uh, I've always said this, like, (14:05) remember, um, is it a top, not, uh, that movie with Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise where (14:12) it's the, uh, service, is it a few good men? Um, and he's, and you know, he's been, he's, (14:19) he's needling Jack, he's needling, needling, and needling him finally. And all of his Jack (14:25) Nicholson, you know, way of being, he hollers out, you couldn't handle the truth. Oh, yes. (14:34) Well, I'm not like that.(14:37) But I have the same level of, are you willing? Because I really believe it's a response. We, (14:45) each of us, you know, it's like mission impossible. You are, you know, if you accept this (14:51) mission, chew this up and swallow it.But you know, each of us are come into this world. I believe (14:56) each and every person has a purpose that's inscribed upon their hearts. And, and the, (15:04) the invitation is to fulfill that.Yeah. Yeah. And that includes our partners, our friends, (15:12) our children, our animals, you know, the work that we do in the world. So yeah. (15:18) Let's start with loving yourself first. I love that.(15:21) Gosh, no one, no one ever tells you like, you know, I hear teachers say, you know, say this (15:27) sometimes well-meaning caring people, just love yourself. Oh my God. I used to hear that all the (15:34) time.Like when I was in my twenties and thirties, you've just got to love yourself. And I'd be like, (15:38) how, what do you do? What does that mean? Is it like, I just go somewhere and I'm done. I love.(15:47) Right. You know, I'm an elder. I'm like, I'm in my elder space.Right. And so I am, you know, (15:55) I'm that person that will be really honest with you and say it is a lifelong journey. Oh yeah.(16:02) Yeah. You really love yourself and to sit in that place of love and to feel, (16:12) feel compelled to support another person in loving themselves. (16:17) Yeah.Yeah. Yeah. And it's not linear either, right? There's going to be (16:22) ups and downs, you know.Oh my God. Yeah. The entire time.Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.(16:29) Um, so you teach the mag Magdalene pathway. Yeah. Knowing oneself and standing confidently (16:36) in one's power. Why is that specifically the medicine mother's need right now? (16:41) And what does it unlock and how she shows up for her children? (16:49) Magdalene. I think we're, I think the Magdalenes are being called (16:55) because Magdalene did not stand in front of the room with her arms raised and say, (17:06) listen to me. She stood there in her fierce strength and said, know yourself (17:21) and the way through all of your life's, you know, vicissitudes is your heart.(17:30) So what I teach is not religious. It's spiritual (17:35) because activating the highest level of your nature, especially when you are raising other (17:44) humans. Yeah.Because little kids like, remember when you were little, (17:51) you watched everything that went on. You listened to everything that the people, (17:57) all of the people, including your parents, the way they talk to other people, the way they talk (18:02) to each other, the way they talked to you, the way they talk to themselves. So the Magdalene (18:09) pathway is really an invitation back to your heart. So you can stand in that place. And, (18:16) and like I said, you know, mothers, like there's so many decisions, like a woman has to make, (18:23) like, you know, the first decision is if you are single or if you're newly married or in a (18:29) new relationship, committed relationship, and you see the two lines on that stick, your first (18:35) relationship, first decision is, am I going to go forward? And then you have a series of relation (18:46) of, I don't know why relationships on my, in my brain, you have a series, because it is the most, (18:51) you know, intimate relationship that you can have with yourself and with another human being (19:00) without any kind of like sexual stuff. It's just like this purity of, of love and hard. It's hard. (19:08) You know, it's beautiful. It's wonderful. It's mysterious. It's mystifying. It's all of it.(19:14) So there's a series of decisions that mothers need to make. How are you going to birth? What (19:21) are you going to put in your body? Are you going to go along with what the doctors say? Are you (19:27) at a birthing center? Are you going to take Pitocin or are you going to do natural? Like, (19:33) there's, you know, are you going to breastfeed? You know, for moms of boys, are, you know, are (19:39) you going to, you know, have a circumcision or not? Like, there's so many decisions that moms (19:46) are making all the time. If you aren't, you know, in touch with your own knowing, with your own (19:54) wisdom, the decisions that you make will be completely influenced by people who are not with (20:01) you at 2 a.m. in the morning when your child is vomiting.Who aren't really there with you for (20:10) you. Yeah. Yeah.I mean, and that's, you know, we were just talking, you know, yeah, about kind of (20:20) cutting out the noise and starting to really listen, you know, to what your body needs and (20:27) getting to know yourself. I mean, I probably, I didn't know myself for years. I didn't listen to (20:34) my body.I definitely didn't know myself like I do now. You know, I don't know how to describe (20:41) that, I think, at some point. But yeah.Yeah. Yeah. You bring up a very, very good point there.(20:48) That's definitely, you know, where it starts. One of the things I taught my daughter when I (20:55) made it, when I became a mom, because I became, I was an older mom, and I had done some inner, (21:02) you know, I'd done quite a bit of inner work on myself, but I still do, so it's not like it's (21:06) done. But I made a decision that I wanted my daughter to be in touch with her body.(21:13) To not ever feel that she had to hug anyone, sit on anyone's lap, or be, you know, listen to (21:24) somebody other than, you know, her dad and me, and even then to question, and that nobody could (21:30) touch her body without her permission. I mean, I literally went from the time, because I had (21:35) her in a sling, and people would come up to me and she had really curly hair and these big blue eyes (21:40) and this like olive skin, and people will come up to her and I would say, you have to ask her (21:47) if you can touch her hair or touch her cheek. And some people were like, that's amazing.(21:54) And other people were like, what? I'm going to ask a baby or a toddler? And I'd be like, (22:01) yes, you can't touch her. Yeah. And then I, as she grew up, I would ask her when people would (22:09) come up to her and talk to her.Again, they had to ask her if they could touch her hair, you know, (22:15) her back. I was like, I was really that, I am that mama. And so I would say to her, (22:22) how did you feel in your belly after you talked to so-and-so? Do you, how do you feel? Is it tight? (22:31) Is it open? Do you feel happy? Because I wanted her to have that kind of an emotional (22:41) literacy, awareness, vocabulary.(22:46) Yeah. Oh my gosh, that's amazing. That's amazing.(22:49) Not everybody liked it. I can tell, I can tell you. (22:52) Oh, I'm sure.Yeah. Yeah. (22:54) Yeah, I'm sure.(22:55) But I feel good about that. (22:56) Exactly. Yeah. And I'm sure she's carried that on, you know, through all these years now too. (23:02) And that's super important for sure. (23:05) Yeah.Yeah. (23:07) So as we're recording this, I just got back from my retreat in Costa Rica and this was (23:12) something that was brought up was these generational patterns and traumas, you know, (23:19) that, that we carry with us, you know, now. So you speak a lot about that as well, (23:24) um, through, uh, you know, and healing, healing those, um, patterns through somatic work, (23:31) hypnotherapy and spiritual coaching. So what does that healing actually look like (23:36) in a mother's body and in her children's behavior, you know, when that happens? (23:41) What I just described, I think would best encapsulate that. (23:50) The courage to step outside of pleasing other people. It also can look like grief sometimes, (24:02) right? Because when you do that work, you realize what you didn't receive.(24:10) I, I say all the time that the places where you run into power struggles, (24:16) whether it's in your relationship or when you're a parent and you have that with a child (24:21) are the places that you did not receive the nurturing that a child, you know, should receive. (24:30) And then it gets manifested in a way for you to work it out. So healing can look like it can (24:38) manifest in different ways.Like when people have enough awareness or when they come to me (24:43) and they start describing their relationships, whether it's with their partner or their sisters (24:48) or their parents or their children, we look to see where the patterns, because you'll notice the same (24:56) thing. You remember when people used to say you date the same person, they just have a different (25:00) face and a different name, right? That's an indication that there might be some healing (25:07) work. So, you know, it really looks like, uh, it also looks a lot like letting go of needing to be (25:15) right, needing to be in control, um, becoming more, um, willing to negotiate and then also (25:23) knowing your own limits, right? Because when you grow up in a house and you experience a lot of (25:30) trauma, it can manifest in a lot of different ways. Some people have, you know, I have hardened their (25:36) hearts, but they have a lot of armory, right? No one's going to get to them. They got it. I'm good.(25:44) I don't need to talk about that. You know, others are, it's my way or the highway. You don't like (25:50) it.No problem. Just, you know, other people don't have any boundaries. They feel guilty if they say (25:58) no, if they ask.So working with moms who are raising, uh, you know, their kids, it's really (26:05) about empowering them to practice. Cause if you have a kid who's, let's say oppositional, (26:12) what do you have to do? You've got to really stand in your boundaries or I like to call them (26:17) limits. You've got to be really clear. You've got to be very specific in your requests. So it looks, (26:25) it looks many different ways, but mostly it, you know, really it goes back to the internal stuff (26:31) because people can say a lot of stuff, but if you're holding onto all this trauma that has your (26:36) nervous system dysregulated, just getting still enough to know what you're feeling (26:43) is a huge accomplishment. Oh yeah.Yeah. Like said, lesson learned for me too. But, um, you know, (26:51) and I think that's important for any, any woman too, right? You know, mothers, you know, trying (26:57) to be a mother, like whoever it is.Right. I mean, that's super, super important. Absolutely.(27:03) Yeah. Cause I work with a number of women that aren't mothers. Yeah.So yeah, I think in our (27:10) society, one of the other thing you're not asking me this, but something I was just going to toss (27:14) in here is I give my clients a challenge to stop saying, I'm sorry. Oh yes. We talked about that (27:21) too in the retreat.Oh my gosh. Yeah. It is just, I, I, it's just shocking.Or when somebody's (27:31) crying, they're having their feelings and they say, I'm sorry. And I think no, no, never, ever (27:37) cry. And, and so yes, I always tell the women I work with, stop saying sorry.Yes. I love that. (27:48) Uh, you are a sacred activist for bodily sovereignty, clean food, air, water, (27:55) and informed choice.Um, how does that activism connect to conscious motherhood? (28:01) And maybe why can't we separate a mother's awakening from the world that she's raising (28:07) her children in? Well, I think that, uh, a woman who is empowered, (28:19) makes different choices for their children. Someone who's educated and empowered makes (28:25) different choices. A woman who feels, um, I mean, I've, I've met a lot of moms who did the right (28:32) thing and their kids were, were harmed. And so, uh, I really believe going back to, (28:42) there's no greater source than a woman who is empowered and embodied for herself and the (28:49) children in her life. And so I believe it's completely intertwined, right? It's, it's, (28:58) you know, we are entrusted. First of all, we're entrusted with the ability to give life, (29:04) even though one might be going through some kind of infertility experience, (29:09) we are entrusted to create life and destroy life.We have that capability. (29:16) We also have that capability with projects and relationships and things in our life. (29:23) So when we have bodily autonomy, we not someone outside of us gets to determine (29:31) what happens to our body and our children's bodies.I believe that choice is something (29:39) that is paramount to get to choose what you want to do without punitive response. (29:50) So I believe that that's every woman's, every mother's right. (29:56) Yeah.So good. Um, you also coauthored Balance for Busy Moms and you've guided many, (30:06) many women over 25 years and you've brought visibility to movements the way you once (30:12) brought it to films. So if you had one thing to say to, you know, whether it's the mother (30:18) listening right now, the soon to be mother, the one that the woman that is trying to be a mother, (30:25) um, you know, and maybe there be like, they're running on empty. They're disconnected from (30:30) their own sacred self. Um, what would you like to say to that woman? (30:40) You matter. You matter. You're worthy. You are good enough. (30:51) Um, that enoughness piece.(30:56) Yeah. So much. Right.(30:59) I, I heard these words many years ago. I'm just, I don't think I created them, but I don't really (31:05) don't know who said them. And I'd started when I, when the Million Mamas movement first came into (31:12) being, you are loved beyond description, powerful beyond measure and a force for good in the world.(31:26) And that's what I would say. Don't question your worth or your value because you matter. (31:37) Hopefully, hopefully somebody listening is taking notes because that's the piece.I feel like kind (31:43) of sums it up, you know, and sometimes you might need to, to write it down, make that your new (31:50) affirmation, you know, repeat that to yourself, you know, every day, even I have my clients, um, (31:57) because I had a mentor that did this with me, uh, as well. And, um, so I do it with my clients and I (32:05) tell them whether they write it out on, on a piece of paper or they can make it pretty and print it (32:11) out and just says, you are enough or, you know, I am enough, however you want to say it and put it (32:17) on like a mirror, you know, the refrigerator somewhere where you, where you're going to see it. (32:24) Yes.Oh, that's beautiful. (32:25) Yeah. Yes.Yeah. You know, maybe, maybe it's not the, I am enough affirmation. Maybe it's what (32:33) you just said, and that might be what people need to have in front of them. You know, maybe (32:36) their screensaver, you know, on their laptop, on their phone, whatever it might be. But I think (32:42) that's beautiful and powerful and, um, definitely I think sums it up. So, um, last question is how (32:51) can people connect with you and find you? You have your own podcasts as well, but yeah, what's (32:58) the, what's the best way for people to find you?
